ON THE WALL - OFF THE WALL
The byproducts of urban life afford limitless opportunities to extract and repurpose visual information. In the ongoing series ONTHE WALL - OFF THE WALL, Dain leans into the convenience of his phone camera to capture and dissect photographic content from daily commutes, errands, and travel. By honing his lens on texturally rich and geometrically intriguing subjects, a languag eof "operatives" is created to then alter the images in manufactured 3D space. Through a process of fabric printing, physical manipulation, found object inclusion, and resin casting, the images are reconstructed to reveal kinetic snapshots of newly formed scenes. The completed works exhibit a transitional state, vacillating between physicality as flat representation and as corporeal reality, this new reality frolicking midst the debris of the city.
